The College
Grade 1 status makes the Welsh College of Horticulture the premier land-based College in Wales. Situated amongst 91 hectares of picturesque gardens and woodland in the small Flintshire village of Northop, WCoH boasts top class teaching resources and commercial facilities. First-class facilities including a commercial horticulture production unit, organic farm, extensive grounds, garden centre, indoor and outdoor equine arenas, floristry studio, machinery workshops, animal unit housing everything from rabbits to iguanas, along with excellent links with industry all help to equip students for successful careers.
Courses
WCoH offers a range of courses in animal care, equine, floristry, horticulture, and machinery. Courses start at entry level, and go right through to university level programmes. Opportunities are given to study on a full-time or part-time basis, of an evening, within the workplace, and at outreach centres across Wales.
14 -19 years of age
WCoH offers Grade 1 training across all of the land-based areas. Tutors are committed to the achievements and progress of students, and high attainment levels are held across all departmental areas.
Students are encouraged to build a large portfolio of skills at WCoH, and extra support is given in gaining practical experience, entrepreneurial skills, business skills, and work placements. Students from entry to university level are fully prepared for a career within their chosen industry.
Apprenticeships & Traineeships
A Modern Apprenticeship or National Vocational Qualification allows you to earn while you learn. Candidates can gain an internationally recognised qualification whilst in employment, gaining practical skills and industry experience.
WCoH can offer NVQ training in all land-based provisions, as well as in Childcare, Customer Service, and Management. A range of NVQ options are also available each year on site.
Higher Education, Post Graduate and Professional
WCoH is an Accredited College of the University of Glamorgan and NEWI. Higher Education qualifications are offered in four of our five main academic departments. In each area there are a number of qualification options and study routes available maximising the opportunities for those wishing to attain qualifications at this level.
Suitable programmes can be found for those progressing straight from level 3 qualifications, mature students returning to learning, and those wanting part time options.
Adult Learners
WCoH is committed to supporting lifelong learning, and provides a wide range of course options for adult learners wanting to develop old skills, and retrain in new areas. Part-time, day and evening courses are offered in a wide range of subjects for a short number of weeks, throughout the year. Part-time options are also available along with full-time opportunities on most full year course offerings. Course entry requirements are often waived for mature learners.
