The College
Barry College is the largest provider of education and training in the Vale of Glamorgan and one of the most popular places to learn in South East Wales.
With six modern sites across the Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff, Barry College offers a wide range of courses from foundation level to university qualifications.
Barry College has a track record of success, with increased learner attainment and learner satisfaction once again this year, supporting learners to achieve meaningful progression routes to university, employment or career progression.
Whatever your goal, Barry College has the course and support to help you succeed.
Courses
Barry College offer hundreds of courses from foundation level to HE courses. Subjects include Aerospace, Art, Business, Care, Construction, Engineering, Hairdressing, Hospitality, ICT and Sport.
14 -19 years of age
Barry College offers the broadest range of options for 14-19 year olds in the county.
Hundreds of 14-16 year olds from Cardiff and the Vale come to Barry College to study as part of their GCSEs. After GCSEs, many of these and other learners aged 16-19 study a full time course or start an apprenticeship with the College.
Links with local universities also mean Barry College offers Higher Education courses up to degree level.
Apprenticeships & Traineeships
Apprenticeships and traineeships allow you to learn whilst working and earning.
To undertake an apprenticehsip or traineeship you will need to have suitable employment. You will then usually come to College for 1 day per week.
The Vale of Glamorgan Training Agency (VGTA) are Barry College’s work based learning agency. Through the VGTA, the College offers apprenticeships in many subject areas.
On an apprenticeship your training is free to both you and your employer.
Higher Education, Post Graduate and Professional
Barry College has partnerships with local universities (University of Glamorgan, UWIC and University of Wales, Newport) and professional industrial bodies to offer HE and postgraduate level qualifications.
Studying such a course at the College can often be more cost effective and convinient for local people and businesses.
Barry College offers an increasing number of HE level courses in a range of subjects including Aerospace, Accountancy, Art & Design, Business Management, Care, Counselling, Computing and Teaching.
Adult Learners
At Barry College we understand learning needs to fit around work, family and other commitments.
The College supports adult learners – offering flexible learning, childcare, financial support and more to ensure learning is as accessible as possible.
Full-time courses are often taught during school hours, whilst most part-time courses are run for one session per week over 1-2 academic years. We also have a popular range of short courses running through the year.
Employers
Barry College has nearly 50 years experience linking with organizations to provide high quality training for business and industry. These links ensure we offer individuals and organisations the appropriate knowledge, skills and qualifications required to meet industry standards, business goals, and fulfil potential.
Training for businesses runs throughout the year – from required qualifications in health and safety to industry specific qualifications. As well as ‘of-the-shelf’ courses bespoke training packages for organisations are also offered.
International
Barry College has learners from across the world. International learners come to the College to study through one of our specific partnerships. These include individuals studying Aerospace Engineering through our partnership with the University of Glamorgan, and groups of learners from the United Arab Emirates studying bespoke Engineering programmes.
We also offer ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses supporting individuals already living in the UK, whose first language is not English.
