The College
Merthyr Tydfil College is the County Borough’s largest provider of post 16 education and training. The campus is situated near the town centre and is within easy walking distance of all public transport.
The College is dedicated to meeting the education and training needs of Young People and Adults.
We offer a wide range of full and part-time course options as well as a work-based training routes.
Our Student Services department offers advice and support in a variety of ways because we understand that many of our students are balancing study with family and work.

The college offers a wide curriculum choice at many levels . Courses range from Business, Computing and Visual Arts to Motor Vehicle,Construction and Hairdressing
14 -19 years of age
Merthyr Tydfil College offers a wide curriculum choice – ranging from pre-entry level courses up to National Diplomas. As part of the University of Glamorgan the college offers a number of foundation degrees so that you can make a seamless transition into higher education .
Apprenticeships & Traineeships
Earn as you Learn! The Work Based Learning (WBL) Unit of the college specialises in offering vocational training from Foundation Level (Skillbuild) to Level 3/4 (Modern Apprenticeship) across a wide variety of routes.
Working with local Employers, we ensure that trainees gain the skills and qualifications needed to access and retain quality employment options and to succeed in the chosen career path.
Higher Education, Post Graduate and Professional
Merthyr Tydfil College is part of the University of Glamorgan and for a number of years has prided itself on offering the local community the convenience of studying for a Higher Education qualification ‘on the doorstep’.We offer a range of Foundation Degrees from Exercise and Health in the Community to Business and Management . We also offer individuals the opportunity to gain entry into university through our Access to H.E. Programme.
Adult Learners
The College provides a wide range of full and part-time options at further and higher education levels which are suitable for adult learners.Whether you need to update or develop new skills we have numerous course options available. You may be surprised to know that many of our students are “returners”. Some return to learning because they want to get to grips with something entirely new.
At Merthyr College we offer a varied curriculum , so you can readily choose to do something that will expand your horizons and give you the confidence that comes with success. You can choose a hands-on vocational programme or something more academic. Gaining a qualification may not be your main aim – and at Merthyr Tydfil College we recognise this – but nothing boosts confidence like success and having a certificate to prove it.
