The College
Welcome to Coleg Sir Gâr, one of the largest further education colleges in Wales.
The college, which is based over five campuses in Carmarthenshire, provides a wide range of further and higher education courses, meeting the needs and aspirations of young people and adults as well as the wider community including employers and their employees.
We are currently helping around 13,000 learners fulfill their potential all of whom are treated as individuals by friendly and enthusiastic staff who make the learning experience interesting and fun as well as providing personal help to support students achieve their goals.
Courses
Coleg Sir Gâr offers a wide variety of full-time and part-time courses. Art and Performance, Computing, Engineering and Construction, Health, Social and Childcare, Hair and Beauty, Landbased, Apprenticeships, A-levels and Access, Sport, Business and Administration.
14 -19 years of age
Coleg Sir Gâr offers a variety of study areas for young people wanting to follow A-levels or vocational qualifications such as National Diplomas. We also offer entry level and life skills courses and the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification. As an accredited college of the University of Glamorgan, we can offer University courses. The top of the range facilities at the college add to the enjoyment of the college and learning experience.
Apprenticeships & Traineeships
Apprenticeships and work based learning programmes are popular with those who want to earn as they learn, and gain a recognised qualification whilst reaping the benefits of experiencing a working environment.
A range of programmes is on offer in many different subject areas.
We have also launched the first work based learning pathway in Fashion, which is the first of its kind in Wales.

Higher Education, Post Graduate and Professional
Coleg Sir Gâr offers part-time and full-time higher education courses and is one of the first colleges to gain accreditation from the University of Glamorgan.
This means that young people, the wider community and employers and employees, benefit from being able to locally access a higher education qualification which can be built-in around their employment.
The college celebrates student success with a Graduation ceremony held every year.
Adult Learners
Coleg Sir Gâr recognises that adult learners study for a variety of different reasons. We offer part-time courses for hobby enthusiasts, or for those who want to learn a new skill. Many adults opt for degree programmes to help boost promotion prospects, or for a career change. Access courses can help many people who didn’t get the opportunity of a school education, to achieve their goals of getting the career they have always dreamed of.
Employers
The college has excellent links with local and national companies and organisations. We understand and respond to current and future developments in a variety of sectors and industries and help employers and employees by providing industry related and specific qualifications such as the AAT Accounting course and the AMPSPAR qualification for medical secretaries.
International
Being one of the largest colleges in Wales with a continuous record of student achievement in academic and professional study, we welcome students from all over the world who want to further their studies.
We have taught students from all parts of the world, including China, the United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Vietnam, Bangladesh and India.
Open Evenings
Open evenings are an ideal opportunity of meeting tutors and support staff, as well as getting a feel of the college.
It’s also an opportunity to see for yourself, the facilities offered at each campus. From the dance studio at the Graig campus, to the brand new Built Environment Centre at Ammanford.
Open evenings start at 5.30pm-8pm and free refreshments are provided.
